We booked 4 nights in the Shangri-La in Cairns for some relaxation after a busy 13 day tour with a tour company. We had a nice sized room with a great view of the Marina and a huge and very comfortable bed. We were offered a discounted breakfast package on arrival, which we signed up for and were not disappointed; there was a very good selection and plenty of it. We spent a bit of time by the pool, which was very relaxing, with options for laying in the sun or shade. We ate out on the first 3 nights but decided to try the hotel's restaurant for our last dinner. It was excellent from start to finish. Ethan, the waiter was very attentive and helpful, giving us a chance to taste wines he had recommended to accompany our chosen food; we were not disappointed. We had a starter to share (duck spring rolls) and an Asian themed main course each. The food was outstanding in both quality and quantity. Indeed, we couldn't finish the bowl of rice we had each ordered; a single bowl would have been enough for both of us. Sadly, we didn't get to try any dessert as we were full after the main course! Overall, the hotel me tour expectations but the restaurant exceeded them.

The hotel location was perfect- convenient for both Great Barrier Reef and Kuranda village tour pickups. it was also very convenient for a stroll on the Esplanade and its plethora of restaurants and nighttime entertainment. we also ate at The Backyard Restaurant- the dinners were delicious and the staff were outstanding, accommodating several special requests. The rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms with ample amenities. They could benefit from food options at the coffee bar if one wants a quick or light breakfast, and the coffee bar should stay open later. The pool was clean annd spacious though the deck might be very tight during high season. Umbrellas and towels for excursions at the front desk were a nice touch.

Great location and excellent services from the staff. The Horizon Club is a great, convenient benefit serving up not just breakfast and all day snacks, but beer and wine and spirits in the evening! After reading some reviews on this place being a little run down, I was hesitant to book, but please don't be. Yes it is getting old, is not a brand new hotel and probably needs a refresh but the location and hospitality certainly make it all worth while! It is clean and the service from the staff is 5 star. There are plenty of restaurants within a short walk. In fact most things you will want to access are within about 1km and if you are heading to the reef, most tours depart right at our doorstep on the Marina.

View was great! Room was spacious - comfortable and clean for a 5-night stay. Staff on arrival were helpful and throughout the stay. The room offered all facilities, robe, slippers, plenty of hanging space, good iron and board, good hairdyer, good bathroom lighting, kettle and fridge. Handy to Cairns Reef Fleet terminal and Esplanade. The hotel pool garden with tropical plants and potted flowers is beautiful and worth a visit to check out - kudos to your gardeners.
